FERTILITY SUPPLEMENTS: MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE
Navigating the supplement maze: Unveiling the truth
Choosing a preconceptual or prenatal supplement can feel like a daunting task. Tablets, capsules, softgels, powders, gummies—how do you decide? Some products use herbal extracts, unconventional ingredients, or alluring packaging, while others make unverified claims of benefits. Such tactics are used by companies to catch your attention and stand out from the rest.
The unregulated nature of food supplements means that anyone, from celebrities to moms, students, and even doctors, can market a product. In the US alone, this has led to an explosion of about 200 fertility products, all claiming to be safe and beneficial. But are they, and how do you make an informed choice? Let's delve into the facts:
- Most prenatal and preconceptual supplements use different ingredients, or varying doses of the same ingredients, so they cannot all provide the same benefits.
- Many supplements use excessive doses of at least one ingredient, raising safety concerns, while others only use cosmetic doses that are ineffective.
- Most products are ‘one-size-fits all’, assuming your age and fertility potential don't impact your nutritional requirements. For instance, both a 25- and 40-year old pregnant woman are recommended the same prenatal.
- The majority of supplements are not research-backed and/or fail to substantiate their claims with credible, published, peer-reviewed scientific evidence.
- Doctors rarely recommend the same supplements, primarily due to the lack of robust scientific evidence supporting their effectiveness in improving fertility.

Meet Our Visionaries: Pioneers in Reproductive Biology
Professor John Aitken and Dr. Parviz Gharagozloo, our founders, bring a wealth of experience in the fields of reproductive biology and therapeutics, collectively spanning over five decades. Their profound insights have played a crucial role in advancing our understanding of human reproductive health.
Their collaboration began over 25 years ago in the United Kingdom, where they served as department heads at the Medical Research Council (MRC). The MRC is a government organization responsible for overseeing funding of all academic medical research nationwide.
Today, they both continue pioneering research programs at various academic institutions, hospitals, and within industry. They are focused on unraveling the factors contributing to the worldwide silent pandemic of declining fertility, believed to be significantly influenced by modern lifestyles and environmental factors.
Real science, not hype
Consumer skepticism around supplements is warranted, given the industry's lack of regulation. But Fertilix stands apart.

The Founders
-
John Aitken, PhD, ScD, FRSE, FRSN, FAHMS, FAA
Chief Scientific Officer | AUSTRALIA
John Aitken’s research career began with a PhD in reproductive biology from the University of Cambridge. Now a Distinguished Emeritus Laureate Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia and serving on the editorial boards of 8 scientific journals, his contributions to the field are unmatched. A scientist’s ‘h-index’ is an estimate of the importance, significance, and broad impact of their cumulative research contributions: 20 is good, 40 is outstanding, and 60 is truly exceptional. Professor Aitken’s h-index is 130. He has been elected a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Australian Academy of Science, was named as the 2012 New South Wales Scientist-of-the-Year, and 2016 recipient of the prestigious Carl G Hartman award.
